I am looking forward to you coming to Oak Hill to ride this summer. We will have a lot of fun working, training, and taking care of your horses. The time spent in the country should be quite an experience for you. You will have many opportunities to do things that you can't do in a big city. We won't be in the wilderness all the time, however, and I will make sure you have the chance to get to our quaint town of Oxford often to experience the Square and the University of Mississippi. Also, we will take a trip to Memphis to see the The Peabody Ducks, Beale Street, and Graceland, and take a ride on the Riverboat.

And how about taking in a rodeo, or a trail ride on the Natchez Trace? Last year we hosted trail rides at the farm with the Oxford Mounted Police and the Longreen Foxhounds. Who knows what's in store for this year!

My goal for you at Oak Hill this summer is to learn how to train a green horse from start to finish. Now, this is not possible in just a few weeks, so you will have three or four horses assigned to you as yours during the time you are here. One you will start on the lunge line and teach voice commands. Your second and third pony or horse will be ones that are already started under saddle and have been started over fences. You will work to take your horses to their next level.

We are also going to work on our carriage driving skills. Have you ever driven a horse or pony in a carriage? On Sunday afternoons we will take group carriage rides and even a hay ride in the buckboard.

Most of all, we will have FUN! Each week we will have a different theme, so if you have anything that you want to bring either to dress up, or play with during these weeks, bring it. One week we will have a Patriotic Theme for the Fourth of July, and we'll also include themes like summer Mardi Gras, Mississippi Cowgirls, or a Hawaiian Luau.

Please take a look at these questions [download here] that will make it easier for me to plan for you. Please send or email them back soon, as I will be shopping for our essential needs.

Happy Trails,

Ms. Laura
